Wekfest Houston 2013

Wekfest is one the best car shows to attend. I remember last year when it was held in Austin, the rollin itself was awesome. Just passing through the prescreen is an accomplishment already. I know I wasn’t gonna win shows but just making it was dope. Honestly its one of the few shows I would register my car, and request time off. Wekfest showcases top quality cars, awesome builds, which some are built in shops and others built in garages. Wekfest Texas was held this year in Houston for the first time and was bigger than last year.

NG WEKFEST-098

Rollin in time for our team was 9am which was better because at least I had time to take shots before people came in and to detail my car. It gave Thaison to do some last minute Wekfest prep which was to put the Lexan windows in.

Congrats to my homie, Thaison for taking 2nd place best Toyota, and his girlfriend Allison for helping helping and putting up with his build hahaha. A lot of sleepless night has been put into this car, but hard work pays off. His car is a true garage build, and great person too.

On a side note, I was reading Stickydiljoe comment on The Chonicles website, “I sometimes wonder where some of these car crews get their Japanese crew names from; like, does it actually mean something to them or did they just decide to pick whatever Japanese word they saw at the moment and attached “garage” or “crew”, etc. to the end of it. It’s a little odd if it just doesn’t mean anything… I think if it was to be a “correct” Japanese club name, the more appropriate order for it would be “Garage Natsukashi” which actually flows a little better, but what the fuck do I know, haha… sorry, just rambling on…”

To answer that, we didn’t choose a Japanese name and slapped garage and called it a day. Natuskashi means, a longing of the past, a nostalgic feeling. Having fond memories of the past. 2010 is when we formed Natsukashi Garage and I’ve been friends with some of them since high school and college. We blog about our builds, talk about cars and capture the memories about the car culture. Its a life journey of our passion for cars.

Mayday Garage Pre Meet Run

The day before Wekfest, Mayday Garage / The Chronicles was hosting a pre meet at the 8th Wonder Brewery Bar. Natsukashi Garage was lucky enough to lead the Austin chapter in the chilly Saturday morning. Coming from Houston, I drove to Austin on Friday soo I can be with my team because thats how real I am, and I always wanna support my team. The flyer said 10AM at Thaison’s pho restaurant in south austin, and there about 10 cars that came out, which was weird because 70 cars rsvp’ed on the facebook page hahaha. Its okay, because quality over quantity right??

Image

But we didnt leave till Austin till 11am because the rest of the Natsukashi Garage crew was still working on Thaison hatchi. Wekfest prep to very last minute.

So while waiting on the rest of the Natskashi Garage Crew I killed time….

We finally arrived at Moon Tower Inn where the Mayday Garage Dallas Chapter and Austin chapter met up, but since we where kinda late it was mainly the cars from the Austin chapter that arrived. Some of the local cars from Houston also came out too. We all chilled at Moon Tower Inn for some food and beer. You must try their hotdogs and the specialty crafted beers they have on tap. We met the dope people from Mayday Garage and other cool car people that all appreciate one thing…. cars. Not gonna lie, I was kinda tipsy after after this pitstop, but alcohol does keep you warm though.

MANILA FITTED MEET

So I went to the Philippines on September for vacation and of course being a car guy I wanted to check out the local meets. Manila Fitted Meet just so happened to be going on and I got that filipino hospitality. The stance movement is catching on the Philippines. Mad props to the guys riding static static and slammed on the Philippines roads because most of the roads there are uneven concrete pavement and steep 45 degree garage parking. I arrived in my rental Toyota Vios, and being the monsoon season, it started raining after 30mins. But the rain didn’t stop people from coming, just make sure to bring a umbrella.

If any one on the Philippines be sure to check out Manila Fitted!! They have meets usually once a month a the Fort Grams Parking lot. Mabuhay!

Hot Import Nights

Once again HIN (Hot Import Nights) was held in Houston again in the George Brown Convention Center. These car shows always have a club type of meet or like the kind of meet you see in the Fast and the Furious movie. There were go go dancers, models posing and signing autographs, dub step music along with nice quality cars.

Unfortunalty I couldn’t upload any more photos on the blog sooo I made a flicker account. Click on the link for more pictures!!

Cupcake Meet 17

So Cupcake Meet 17 was held in Corpus Christi which was a 4hr drive from Houston. I literally came home from work after 12hr nightshift in the ER. I wasn’t planning on going originally, but since the rest of the Natsukashi garage family is going, I decided Im going too. I took the Miata instead of the GTI, but during the drive I wish I took the GTI since it has hot, humid and raining. Having no AC in the Miata made me feel miserable. I pulled over couple of times to take breaks and catch little power naps.

Image

When I arrived the rest of the team was there and I was glad I made it after very little sleep. It just rained when I arrived, but the weather didn’t become cooler, instead it was hot, humid, and sticky. Thank you Texas heat. But that didn’t stop me from taking pics.

Would love to have this as my next car. Lifted and boosted too.

AE71 Update

So one car i’ve been keeping kind of on the DL over the last few years is my 1983 Toyota Corolla. I purchased it a few years ago and drove it only for a few months until I overheated and seized the motor.

This is how it sat May 20, 2011.

20130904-201406.jpg

I’d seen a handful of the *e7 corollas out there pop up on the 86 forums, but never really looked in depth at them. I was so confused. Was it a te72? A ke70? An ae71? From my research i learned that the letter before the e7_ corresponded with the engine. So te72 had a 2tc. A ke70 had a 3kc motor. And the ae71’s came woth 4ac motors.

The great thing I learned about ae71’s was that they are essentially 4 door sr5 ae86’s. The whole e7 generation corolla family have a lot of similarities to ae86’s, but the 83 model ae71’s were most similar. Since they came with 4ac’s it would be really easy to do a gts swap and fit a 4age in. So i started looking at other peoples builds and came across a few I really liked.

The guys i really looked at in the e7 world for inspiration are:

Renegade X Sarapbuhay Meet

On Saturday Renegade and Sarapbuhay held a meet in the parking lot of Thaison’s slaughter lane Pho Thaison shop. It was a lot of fun with a turnout larger than we were expecting. At one point Thaison was even worrying about whether or not all the cars would fit in the lot, but sure enough everyone did. Jash holds regular meets under the Renegade alias up at k1 speed in Austin, Texas. From what I heard the initial reason for this meet was a farewell deal for Sarapbuhay. I’d like to think it was really because it was my birthday, but hey I’m conceited.  The meet was interesting in that all sorts of cars showed up for the good time. Unlike most meets this went off without a hitch in that there were no burnouts or other forms of stupidity that usually occur at these things. It was a nice breath of fresh air and since it was in Austin, I got to see a lot of good friends that usually don’t take their cars out for other meets.

In this collection of photos I have the honor of posting on behalf of Vinson as well as a guest photographer and good friend of Natsukashi Garage, Warren Chan. Warren is an awesome photographer and him and his brother are starting a new clothing line called “Redline” We will be sure to keep you updated on their doings as well as possibly planning a meet with them in the future?

Thaison also decided to have Natsukashi Garage host the “pre-meet” at his William Cannon Restaurant a few hours before the meet. We all agreed it would be fun and thus we did just that! Anyways, on to the photos, I hope you all enjoy!

Lets kick off the pre-meet with a photo by Warren of our boy Evarett’s sick s13 coupe
